Last Easter Beatrice came from Italy, Rome to study Lingerie and Swimwear Design at London College of Fashion. Having studied Philosophy of Law at University this was a great opportunity to try something new and explore the passion she had always had “for art in all its forms”.

We catch up with her a year after her course to talk about her time at LCF and find out what happened next.

What was your motivation for choosing the Lingerie and Swimwear Design course at London College of Fashion?

As I said I've always had a great passion for art, drawing and fashion. I chose the Lingerie and Swimwear Design course because it represented the union between my passion for drawing and fashion and at the same time I fell in love with these clothes. I find them extremely feminine and I try to convey my aesthetic sense by designing elegant costumes but at the same time being delicious and fresh.

What did you like most about the course?

I attended the course in April immediately after Easter. I found the environment extremely open and international. My classmates were of different nationalities. It was nice to see different visions on the same theme at the same time, as everyone gave their own interpretation to the course. The teacher managed to get us perfectly involved in the activities that we had to do in a very natural way and her words gave me a lot of courage to face this important step.

What was most challenging about the course?

The most challenging part of the course was definitely the understanding of the garment on the mannequin. At that moment you have to be able to concretely realize your idea and your design.

What happened after the course finished?

After the course I returned to Rome excited about this experience. with a great positive energy and I proposed to a friend of mine, she too passionate about fashion, to do something in this sector.

Tell us more about your swimwear business

I decided to create a high-end brand because I wanted to create elegant swimwear – and at the same time comfortable pieces. My designs have a very clean and defined cut that make them sophisticated and fresh. It was a high investment because both me and my friend believe a lot in this project and we have tried to do it in the most professional way possible with the best Italian fabrics and the best Italian factories.

What inspires you when designing new collections?

I like to think about the needs of women and what it might please them to wear and at the same time make them feel irresistible. I try to take inspiration from both current fashion but also from the colours and elements of the various fabrics I use. It’s a mix of many factors.

For me, it is extremely important to work on something with passion and that every item is created with the same energy and positivity.

What advice would you give to someone who is thinking of starting a lingerie or swimwear business?

The advice I give to those who want to start a lingerie or swimwear design business is to have a lot of passion in everything they do. From the design of the pieces to searching for the best material to create the product to packaging. Finally finding good consultants to support with finances and marketing. This article on starting a fashion business is great if you want more advice and ideas.

Finally, in regards to your business, what are you hopes for the future?

We have recently launched our website and Instagram. After a year of continuous work, my sincere hopes are that my products will appeal to people all over the world and that we can continue to realize our creations and maybe even have stores in the future!
