Today we are incredibly excited to announce that Kate Febbraro is the winner of our Autumn Term competition, having won the prize of a free place on a short course of her choice!

Kate attended the Jewellery Making for Beginners short course while on maternity leave, as she was looking to get stuck into something creative. We loved seeing Kate’s work on Instagram and getting to read all about her amazing experience.

“I thought the course was a great introduction to jewellery making. We learnt a number of skills ... I loved creating a piece from scratch and felt a great sense of achievement when I finished something.”

Where are you from and what's your favourite thing about it?

I’m from Hertfordshire. I like that it is very close to London but is also surrounded by countryside.

What is your occupation?

I am currently on extended maternity leave.

What short course did you to study upon at Central Saint Martins (CSM) and what was your journey to the course?

I attended Jewellery Making for Beginners. I have always had an interest in jewellery and gemstones. I wanted to try my hand at something creative and this course fit the bill.

What did you enjoy most about your short course?

I thought the course was a great introduction to jewellery making. We learnt a number of skills and then were free to use them to create something that was actually wearable and artistic. I loved creating a piece from scratch and felt a great sense of achievement when I finished something. Freida Munro was an excellent teacher - patient, interesting and creative.

What is it like studying in London?

London is wonderful and CSM is located in such a great area. I lived in London previously, but it was great to have the opportunity to explore the areas around Granary Square anew. It’s such a vibrant place with activities going on every night.

What are you going to do next with your new skills?

I’d love to carry on making jewellery - I’ve found a new passion. Whilst I don’t have any plans to become a jeweller, you never know! All of the skills I have picked up on this course are a great foundation to build upon.

What would you say to someone who is thinking about taking a short course at CSM?

Do it! You’ll learn in a great place, in a great area.

What do you believe is integral to the work of an artist/creative, in any discipline?

To create something physical that conveys how you feel or view the world.

What three words best describe your CSM Short Course experience?

Inspiring, informative and enjoyable.
