Students in a Presessional Academic English classroom

Pre-sessional English

If you have a conditional or unconditional offer to study at University of the Arts London (UAL) and need to improve your English, our Pre-sessional courses can help you.

Pre-sessional English prepares you for your main academic course at UAL. You will improve your language skills in London, experience academic life at UAL and learn about British culture.

If you complete your Pre-sessional course and pass your assessments, you can progress to your main academic course at UAL.

Our Pre-sessional courses are accredited by the British Council and BALEAP.

Important course updates (updated 07/04/20)

Due to the outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19) in the UK we have made the difficult decision to postpone all Pre-sessional courses.

UAL remains committed to supporting everyone in our community, including our prospective students, in the best way that we can. Read UAL’s response to the coronavirus outbreak.

Applications:

We have removed application deadlines. You can apply until courses are full. When a course is full, we will announce it on this website.

We are accepting applications on the basis that our courses will run when it safe to do so. We are processing applications, however, please note our response time may be longer than normal.

Availability:

  • Availability is very limited for 19, 13 Week and 9 Week Pre-sessional courses. Depending on availability, we may offer you a place on the waiting list.
  • There is good availability for all other Pre-sessional courses.

IELTS exams in several countries are cancelled up to April 2020. If you cannot take a new IELTS exam, you may be able to use an older IELTS result (or equivalent English language test) to apply for Pre-sessional. Read our guidance on How to apply.

If you need advice about your Pre-sessional application, please get in touch with us at presessional-admissions@arts.ac.uk.
