Tomio studied Pre-sessional English Online with us in summer 2021, he is now studying his Masters in Performance: Design and Practice at Central Saint Martins (CSM)
I didn't have any experience studying at higher education in Western countries, so learning English within a natural academic context, identical to the one I would be studying in, was very effective.
Tell us about your experience studying Pre-sessional English online
I quickly saw that even if my classmates and I are not in the same place as each other, we can still communicate easily. Plus, I saved time and energy on travel! We had a lot of group presentations and had plenty of opportunities to chat about both academic and personal things in small groups. Our teacher pushed us to continue developing our English intensively and was very motivating.
Did you take part in extra activities outside of your classes?
I joined Pre-sessional Art Club often which took place before our online classes. The atmosphere was chilled and fun. There wasn’t too much pressure and it allowed me to connect with students and tutors outside my class while sharing my creativity and passions.

What are your favourite memories from your Pre-sessional course?
Practicing our final Project presentations - we got lots of opportunities to practice and it brought me and my classmates closer together.
How did pre-sessional prepare you for your main course?
I'm now studying MA Performance: Design and Practice at CSM. I didn't have any experience studying at higher education in Western countries, so learning English within a natural academic context, identical to the one I would be studying in, was very effective.
Do you have any tips for future students?
Join extra activities outside of class, like Art Club, which you can enjoy in English. It's a great way to practice your English further and make friends.
