Our local communities are at the heart of what we do. From training and events to co-creating new infrastructure, we work together to make places better for everyone.

UAL has a long tradition of working with the communities where we’re based to help make the places we share work better for everyone.

By partnering with local people and organisations over many years, we have learned how we can use our specialist expertise to best support the goals of our communities.

We work with a wide range of local stakeholders, including:

  • businesses
  • residents
  • charities and social enterprise
  • local authorities and developers
  • community organisations
  • cultural venues.

What we can offer

We share our expertise and support in various ways, including:

  • designing and delivering creative and digital skills development programmes
  • promoting the cultural heritage of local communities
  • co-producing creative events, public artworks, exhibitions, performances
  • supporting development of creative and cultural industries clusters
  • co-creating visions for positive environmental change, as part of new developments
  • supporting local businesses and entrepreneurs to innovate and grow
  • bringing the experience of specialist arts education into schools.
  • helping local authorities deliver on their good growth priorities.

How we work with partners

Our commitment to how we work with our local communities is set out in our Placemaking Manifesto.

We have developed a 'theory of change’ logic model. This model shows the breadth of our placemaking expertise and how we plan and deliver benefits for our partners and places.
