Are you a teenager looking to develop skills, creativity and confidence?

Student Jake Scott explains how UAL short courses for teenagers tick all these boxes. Jake joined us at Chelsea College of Arts for the Fine Art for 16 - 18 Year Olds Online Short Course and went on to exhibit his work in our Short Course Exhibition. His piece ‘Fade to Black’ used many of the techniques he learned on the course, Jake explained; ‘The course was very inspirational and I am proud of the progress I made over the course’.

This summer UAL short courses are offering a wide range of specialist courses for teenagers online and on campus. Each course is focused on developing skills, creativity, and confidence in creative subjects which are often neglected at school. These courses have been scheduled in a way that allows you to build a tailored programme of study concentrating on the creative topics that interest you most.

Which course did you study and why did you choose it?
I chose Fine art for 16 - 18 Year Olds Online Short Course as I wanted to develop my art further and study at a prestigious school such as Chelsea College of Arts. It was also appealing to work alongside other like-minded young creatives.

What did you enjoy most about your course?
I loved creating my final piece, 'Fade to Black', as it was fascinating seeing all the techniques we had learned come together into a piece we spent a longer amount of time completing. All of the things I learned really fed into the final piece and I am pleased with what I got out of the course.

How has this course benefitted your personal development?
This course opened my eyes to new artists and their styles, therefore helping mature and develop my own. It has really encouraged me to keep on trying new things, further adding to my personal development.

What would you say to someone who is thinking about taking a short course at Chelsea College of Arts?
I would strongly advise them to take part in it as it is an amazing, unique experience that not many other art courses achieve.

What do you believe is integral to the work of an artist or designer, in any discipline?
I believe that it is crucial for all artists/designers to experiment all the time in order to develop new practices and to keep their creativity alive.

Enlightening, inspirational, and entertaining.
