Despite already working as a freelance illustrator, Luna Dannemann tells us why she still decided to do the Illustration short course at Chelsea College of Arts and how it has boosted her professional and personal practice.
Based in Buenos Aires, Luna Dannemann works as an editorial graphic designer and audiovisual designer for the City of Buenos Aires. On top of this, she works on a freelance basis as a graphic designer and illustrator.
You can be forgiven for thinking that because of Luna’s impressive work experience she would have little use for the Illustration Online Short Course offered by Chelsea College of Arts. But for her doing the course was more a matter of combining all her passions together so she could do her job better.
“What inspired me to do the illustration course was the desire to merge art with graphic design. I've always liked to draw and paint, so after I finished university I felt it was time to explore this,” Luna explains.
Confirming to me that doing the course was indeed an “excellent decision” for her professional career, Luna says the skills and techniques she learned on the short course have become a great source of freelance work for the designer.
“The course gave me the fundamental tools needed to create a project from the ground up and I’m putting these into practice every day.”
Alongside this, the course has enabled Luna to find new and creative ways of creating content that demonstrate her skills for her own Instagram page – a place she credits for being a major course of freelance commissions.
Luna closes our conversation saying that potential students shouldn’t hesitate if they’re thinking about doing a short course. “It’s such an enriching experience and you can use the skills you learn on a professional and personal work capacity. If you have the means to do a short course, then you will not regret it!”
