This year, we delivered a Bespoke Infographic Design course for staff at LNER (London North Eastern Railway).

Tanya Ward, Brand Studio Designer at LNER, came to us looking for a bespoke course tailored to her team's specific needs. Tanya had taken two online short courses with us to further her professional development.

The course was created and run by Laura Knight, Designer, educator and researcher as well as UAL Course leader and short course tutor.

The experience was great. Laura Knight put together an excellent course for us. I had sent her some examples of some of the infographic work that my team had designed, together with samples of colours from our brand guidelines. She used these examples for our exercises during the course. We examined our own infographics, exploring the bits that we had done well, and bits that could be improved.

The course inspired the team to revisit their designs and processes, putting all the theory and skills learned into practice.

On a personal level, it increases confidence that what I am producing is to the best level it can be. One member of the team has since redesigned our route map and has taken the learnings from this course which has benefitted the design greatly.

Topics covered included:

  • Key principles of information design
  • Narrative and storytelling
  • Framing data or narrative for the target audience
  • Data visualisation
  • Maximising design

I would definitely recommend this course to other design professionals who create infographics, data visualisation or those who create wayfinding or travel/city maps.
