Here at London College of Fashion, we are committed to using fashion as a discipline to help shape lives, which is why social responsibility, diversity and sustainability are embedded into the curriculum of our courses.

Whether this is from a business, media or design perspective, our courses encourage our students to be conscious of the impact that fashion has on the environment and aim to help them find innovative solutions that do not compromise or hinder their creativity.

As part of their Design and Innovation unit, our MA Fashion Design Management students put their sustainable design thinking into practice and collaborated with fashion tech company, Save Your Wardrobe.

Founded during the pandemic by Hansa and Mehdi Doghri, Save Your Wardrobe is an emerging brand with a strong push on sustainability, focusing on clothing care and repair.

Their innovative business model connects brands, consumers, and service partners, as well as using artificial intelligence to scan and store user’s clothes in a virtual wardrobe, which aims to help reduce unnecessary repeat purchases. This unique model has been recognised by fashion house LVMH, who awarded them their 2023 Innovation Award – a testament to how far the brand has come!

With the ongoing development of legislation and guidelines around producer responsibility and digital product passports, this collaboration gave our students the opportunity to tackle real-world challenges. In groups of 4, our students researched the key challenges faced by Save Your Wardrobe and came up with creative digital solutions that the brand could adopt to empower fashion consumers with essential supply chain knowledge. The project also required our students to provide innovative solutions to increase the engagement in upcycling and aftercare services – two of Save Your Wardrobe’s key services.

These industry briefs not only provide our students with the opportunity to work for real life clients, but our partners also gain valuable insights that they can use to adapt their current business strategies.

Mehdi Dogri, Co-Founder of Save Your Wardrobe said; “As a Fashion Tech startup disrupting the aftercare industry, it’s very important for us to stay close to the academic experts and future fashion leaders to challenge and enrich our thinking. Working with the MA Fashion Design Management team and students has been a true pleasure. They are very curious, and forward thinking. They have introduced a new angle of thinking to some of subjects we are working on. It will be a pleasure to continue working with them in the future.”

We got in touch with students who took part in the Save Your Wardrobe collaboration, to hear more about their experience:

Taking part in this collaboration provided me with invaluable insights into the complexities of the fashion industry and the importance of embracing technological advancements. I learned that a data-driven approach, powered by AI algorithms and rapid prototyping, can significantly impact decision-making and product development in the fashion domain. Additionally, the experience reinforced the significance of personalized services in catering to diverse consumer needs, especially in an era of economic disparity. - Sanjana Atal

Working on the Save Your Wardrobe brief was an exciting opportunity. I enjoyed developing a project in the fashion-tech sphere which is something different to what I have been exposed to so far, thus expanding my horizons. The project taught me some of the most important things pertaining to business in the 21st century - radical innovation and ethical responsibility. - Poorvi  Kar
