Biography

Can you introduce yourself and tell us a bit about what you do?

I graduated in 2017, from LCF BA Fashion Contour. I’m from China, and I have spent 5 years in LCF, including 1-year-international preparation for fashion course, and 1-year-placement year in London. Now I’m based in China, as the co-founder and the creative director of VOIMENT. During the placement year, I worked in ROKSANDA as design assistant, and in Bordelle as studio assistant.

What have you been working on since finishing your course?

I started to prepare for my own brand VOIMENT in my final year, and started the first collection based on my graduation collection right after finishing the course in 2017.

What inspired you to launch Voiment?

I started VOIMENT with my classmate Yuman He after our placement year, we wanted to create an intimate-wear brand for women from the perspective of women. The brand name VOIMENT tells everything about the inspiration and image, VOIMENT is a combination of two words, VOID and MOVEMENT. We would like to create an imaginary space for our products in between with our customers, to connect with every single personality.

Any exciting upcoming projects you can tell us about?

Yuman and I have just designed a charity chair for the upcoming Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games, our chairs will be everywhere in the city for the public. It’s very special for us, because this is a very first project we worked on as designers, but not only the lingerie or fashion designers, to share our ideas with the public.

What are your plans for the next few years? Where would you like to see yourself professionally?

Still in the world of lingerie and swimwear, as designer. My professional plan is always along with VOIMENT. In the next few years, my plan is to have VOIMENT be more known in the international market, do a few more cross-over collaborations with well-known brands/artists/influencers, and also we would like to include more lifestyle ranges into VOIMENT.

What attracted you to LCF?

The combination of art, design and market.

Why did you decide to study BA Fashion Contour?

I did the International Preparation for Fashion course before BA, I was attracted by the contour course when we were given the course tour and introduction, the delicacy of design is what I’ve always been good at and interested in.

What did you enjoy the most about the course?

I love the technical part, sewing and pattern cutting, learned a lot!

Can you tell us a bit about your favourite project completed on the course?

That would be my final year design project. I did a swimwear collection using recycled fabric and vintage trims. My inspiration was from the ocean pollution, so most of the materials are sustainable, especially the swimwear Lycra, which are made from the abandoned fishing net. Its like the swimwear is made from the pollution of the ocean. When people wear this collection and go back to the ocean, it is just like an organic cycle. From then on, VOIMENT has always carried on with the sustainable idea, by using recycled and off-cut materials.

What advice would you give to potential students who would like to enrol on this course?

Do think about your professional career during the 3 or 4 years in the university, try different paths and roles, and find out the future you want most and would love to dedicate to.
