The 20/20: Futures exhibition at LCF East Bank celebrates the work of 20 artists who undertook residencies with UK public collections as part of 20/20, an ambitious 3-year programme aimed at catalysing artists’ careers and change in collections, that took place between 2021 and 2024.
Developed in response to urgent calls for action across the arts to address social inequalities and racial injustices, 20/20 combined artist residencies with artistic commissioning at scale, seeking to catalyse artists’ careers and change in collections. Between 2022 and 2024, 20 emerging and mid-career artists (identifying as black, brown, Asian, global majority and/or people of colour), took up residencies with 20 public art collections, leading to 20 new permanent acquisitions and a 20/20 print portfolio gifted to each collection partner.
One year on, 20/20: Futures showcases the artists through multiple and non-linear narratives, with an emphasis on conceptual, thematic, formal and material connections. Taking place at London College of Fashion, UAL East Bank, across the ground floor gallery, mezzanine and lower ground spaces, the exhibition will feature textiles, film, moving image, drawings, photography, sculpture, sound, as well as documentation of work developed during the residencies.
