This programme is taught across various formats from specialist workshops, lectures, group work, discussions, and 1-1’s. This programmes is underpinned by Contemporary Culture and Fashion Studies, which will introduce you to a variety of key London locations, cultural and iconic sites, at the heart of the British Fashion community. You will find inspiration from visits, researching exhibitions, printed matter and digital spaces. Throughout each dynamic and fast paced unit, you will immerse yourself in all things fashion and applied design to experience a full breadth of 2D and 3D possibilities to research and experiment with.
You will immerse yourself in visual communication to develop critical research and thinking skills in relation to fashion image(s) and the importance of visual literacy. At times, you may find yourself negotiating roles by collaborating in teams, alongside project managing, analysing trends, developing strategies, research buying cycles, trend forecasting in relation to product development, and profitability. You will interpret your creative ideas, finding design solutions at the same time as being aware of commercial restraints, alongside the luxury market to develop beautiful bespoke design work and hand craft. As climate awareness is very important at UAL, you are encouraged to be as experimental as possible and consider processes of reuse, upcycling, and recycling materials.
