The first in the ‘Graduate Futures Hosts Careers Crawl’ series provided a select cohort of LCF students a unique opportunity to experience firsthand the work environment and culture at the UK's leading shopping channel, QVC UK. With retail operations worldwide, QVC, part of Qurate Retail Group, is home to a variety of brands, products, and personalities available on air and across their digital platforms.

Students spent the morning visiting QVC's impressive Chiswick Park headquarters and hearing from brand representatives Kera Heward and Emily Ballantyne about the vision and mission of the brand. The presentations provided key insights into the intricacies of a multi-faceted business and what a day-to-day at the brand might be like.

The buying team also spent time talking to students about the skills QVC is looking for from a new graduate with emphasis being placed on the importance of having transferable skills which included adaptability, communication, and leadership enabling employees to be agile and open to moving around the different areas of the business and to continuously grow by getting outside of their comfort zone.

My eyes were truly opened, QVC HQ is such a rich, sprawling & intricate place and seems like a great place to work

During the presentation, the brand also took the opportunity to promote it’s 12-month Graduate Schemes which will provide graduates with full exposure to the business across planning, buying, merchandising, and tech, allowing them to apply their skills and energy where they are best suited.

As part of the crawl, students were given an exclusive tour of the building and of the key departments which range from buying and merchandising to sales, broadcast, and content production. The tour was eye opening, providing a real ‘behind-the-scenes’ look at the broadcasting side of the business in action. Throughout the morning students took the opportunity to develop their skills of communication, and curiosity by networking and asking questions and to develop on their employability as they consider their career trajectories ahead of graduation.

The careers crawl was such an amazing experience for students to explore career opportunities and learn first-hand knowledge from the employees about company cultures. I cannot wait for future events like this and to find out more opportunities for international students!

- Bonnie Ho, BA Fashion Marketing student

QVC UK ended the morning by sharing with students the values at the heart of the brand, a fundamental value being the importance of creating a working environment and culture where every individual can feel a real sense of belonging and feel empowered to achieve their full potential.
