Biography

Cher Potter is an LCF/V&A Senior Research Fellow in Design Futures (2013 ‐ ongoing). At the Victoria and Albert Museum, she researches emergent design practices with a focus on the African continent and supports related future collections. At London College of Fashion, she teaches a unit entitled ‘Design Futures: tendencies, tactics and terminology’.

In 2015, she founded the cross‐ continental design research unit AfriDesignX (afridesignx.com), supported by the Leverhulme Trust, working with makers and cultural producers in Nairobi, Accra, Johannesburg and Dakar to stretch, broaden and challenge twenty‐first century concepts of design. Prior to joining LCF, she led the Creative Direction at WGSN Forecasting Bureau where she analysed socio‐political and cultural trends in relation to design and developed the global macro trend reports. She studied History of Design (MSc Distinction) at University of Oxford, UK; Arts of Africa (Selected module) at SOAS, UK; and Art Theory (BA) at Rhodes University, South Africa.
