LCF Careers, Fashion Photographers and BA (Hons) Fashion Photography students talk about creating a career in the industry
Yesterday, BA (Hons) Fashion Photography students got a chance to hear from an expert panel on crafting a career in the fashion photography industry.
Hosted by LCF Careers, who led the discussion, the students got the chance to ask their questions and share thoughts with fashion photographer Jam, fashion photographer and co-editor for Pigeons & Peacocks and LCF alumna Ella Sullivan, freelancing photographer and LCF alumna Katy Davies, and enterprising designer Lisa Vorreiter. Drawing on their knowledge of the industry, finding your own voice and setting up your own business, the panel were able to offer students invaluable advice.
Ella spoke about how to develop as a fashion photographer:
“It’s important to find one thing that you love, something that is your personal journey. When I’m looking through the photography submissions to Pigeons & Peacocks, sometimes there’s a lot of variety within a student’s submission. It’s unusual to see an individual style when someone is just starting out, but you really see that as a photographer develops, they find their own story.”
Lisa agreed on the point of finding your own way to develop, adding insights from her experience as a freelance designer who works with luxury brands:
“Even now, I start new jobs on a monthly basis and it’s so important to turn up with a humble attitude. You can never know it all so you just have to experiment and be ready to learn!”
