Anne Smith - Dean of Academic Programmes
I am the Dean of Academic Programmes: Fashion, Jewellery and Textiles, Product, Ceramic and Industrial Design, Spatial Practices at Central Saint Martins.
After graduating from Saint Martins School of Art in fashion print, I set up my own fashion label designing and selling fashion and printed textiles collections for women's, men's and childrenswear. Featured in leading fashion publications such as Vogue, ID, WWD, Cosmopolitan and The Times, the collections sold in London, Paris, New York and Tokyo in stores such as Saks and Bloomingdales, Harvey Nichols and Selfridges.
My research developed new approaches in laser cutting and etching for fashion, interior and accessories materials, which was awarded a patent for innovative application of the technology and has been exhibited in Paris, Denmark, New York and London. I curated the Textiles Futures Research exhibition, WarpFactor 09, which featured the collaborative work of CSM textiles design researchers and students with scientists, engineers, technologists and mastercrafts, and toured Tokyo, Guangzhou, and London.
I began teaching in FE and on the BA Textile Design course at Chelsea College of Art and Design, and became course director of BA Textiles at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in 2001, I became Dean of the School of Fashion and Textiles at CSM in 2006, and am now Dean of Academic Programmes: Fashion, Jewellery and Textiles, Product, Ceramic and Industrial Design, Spatial Practices. I am on the Academic Board and The Research Standards and Development Committee University of the Arts, London; and Executive Boards of the Textiles Futures Research Centre, UAL, and the UK Association of Fashion and Textiles Courses.
