Spatial Practices: Practicing Space

Spatial Practices: Practicing Space is a collective exhibition and events series from the Spatial Practices programme, celebrating alternative approaches to spatial practice that embrace the political and the activist, the performative and the curatorial, the architectural and the urban.

This exhibition will present innovative projects and collaborations, showcasing new questions and knowledges from the staff and students of Spatial Practices.

Spatial Practices will host a live events programme throughout the exhibition.

Join us from 6–9pm, 15 March for the exhibition launch hosted by MA Cities. There will be a performance and workshop by Brazillian band Baque de Axe, 6.30–7pm as part of the launch, however there are limited spaces so please register here on Eventbrite.

M-Arch Architecture will be hosting an Open Day in the Gallery, 23 March, 2–4.30pm. Please reserve a spot on Eventbrite for the Open Day here.

In parallel to the exhibition, Spatial Practices will take over the Lethaby and Windows Gallery spaces with an array of related activity includes:

1 February - 24 March: Take Up Space Window Gallery exhibition

A collaborative exhibition by MA Architecture tutor Ulrike Stevens from in the Window Gallery. While queer practices and queer theory are of growing interest and visibility in art and design, queer spaces in London have all but disappeared. The goal of this Window exhibition is to TAKE UP SPACE, and find new ways to hold space, together!

26 February - 11 April: Woman, Life, Freedom: The Body of the Woman in Struggle Window Gallery exhibition

Four pieces of work were produced as a collaboration between academics and students who were inspired by the feminist, anti-colonial and radical nature of the Woman, Life, Freedom movement.

27 February - 10 March: Dialogue in Practic(s)e

An exhibition exploring the intricate workings of architectural teaching and learning through the juxtaposition and investigation of student and tutors works.

13 March - 12 April: Inga Kaugsay / Habitar Inga / Inga Dwelling Window Gallery exhibition

Inga Ancestral Inhabitation Knowledge Mapping aims to recognise the symbolic, spiritual, spatial and constructive aspects of the Inga Inhabitation knowledges and practices in parts of the Colombian Andean Amazon region, and re-centre and foreground the value of Inga ancestral forms of inhabitation for younger Inga generations and other worlds.

25–29 March: Nu Moment

Central Saint Martins and Kings Cross Artist in Residence programme will host a series of workshops for local young people. Co-designing a sculpture for Granary Square, they will unveil the hidden artistic histories of Kings Cross through an inclusive music, dance and events programme. Produced by 2024 Artist in Residence and MA Narrative Environments tutor Xavier Llarch Font.
