Diploma in Professional Studies: Performance

The following course offers a DPS year:

In the 21st century, performance shapes creative subjects and cultural advancements. Students find employment and placements in workshops, studios and massive and small-scale theatre as well as crafts affiliated to this, for example designing and making garments and costumes, sets and photoshoots for live performance, film, music and fashion; styling and hospitality industries such as events.

Performance Design and Practice (PDP) is part of a complex industry with diverse networks. At Central Saint Martins, we approach work placements as project-based designing and creating performance and theatre. The direct and indirect forms and applications of this are extensive. This includes management, organisational and experiential economies in both education and retail settings (often called ‘retail theatre’). Students develop Collaborative Skills and techniques such as technical theatre, which can be anything from 2D, 3D and time-based making through to projection mapping and lighting and sound production.

BA PDP at CSM work on the basis of collaboration and the idea that outcome and co-operation yields spectacle, provocation and blended entertainment/education situations.

DPS for the Performance programme gives opportunities for students to demonstrate their skills, and at the same time produce industry connections and strengthening a complete experience of creative working. Returning students come back determined to make the best use of the final year of their Performance Design and Practice Degree and plan their future moves.
