Interview

Why did you choose to study BA (Hons) Fashion Communication: Histories and Theories at Central Saint Martins?

After studying fashion journalism and marketing for a year, I realised I needed a stronger cultural foundation to articulate and defend my ideas effectively. This course also gave me a comprehensive understanding of different perspectives, allowing me to express my ideas more convincingly and insightfully.

What’s the most interesting project you’ve worked on so far?

For the final-year group project, my classmates and I had to analyse how fashion has misappropriated a book critically. Ultimately, all our thoughts were published in a book titled Novel: A Metacritique of Fashion and Its Relationship to Literature. Collaborating with my classmates and hearing their unique perspectives was the most intriguing aspect of the project. Seeing our collective thoughts come to life in a physical book was incredibly satisfying.

Have you completed any work placements whilst being on the course?

During my Placement Year, I gained various experiences, the most significant being my internship at D Repubblica magazine in Milan. Thanks to this opportunity, I got to know many industry professionals and see how they work. Furthermore, thanks to the knowledge I gained during the first two years, I have been able to write articles on different topics and assisted many creative people with their projects.

What important piece of advice would you give to students thinking of studying this course?

I highly recommend this course to students wishing to apply because it provides broad knowledge that enables to pursue any career path in the fashion industry and other creative fields.

What has been the highlight of your Central Saint Martins experience?

CSM provided me with an exceptional opportunity to meet inspiring individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures, different from my own. My experience at CSM and the people I got to know, not only allowed me to develop a future professional in the fashion industry, but also as a person.

What are your career aspirations?

In five years, I plan to work in the communication area of the fashion industry, either for brands or fashion magazines.

What is the most important thing you learnt on the course?

The most significant thing I’ve learned during the time on the course was the ability to critically analyse information while respecting other people's ideas and perspectives and learning from them.
