Biography

I am an academic and a design consultant. Having graduated from the Royal College of Art, I started my career at Fitch PLC, where in 1990 I helped establish the first user-centred design research team, the Exploratory Design Laboratory. I went on to work in senior roles in business proposition development, strategy and client relationships, at BDG McColl, CIL, Vitra and PI Global, before returning to academia.

I have taught design theory and practice, leadership in the creative industries, and design strategy, and have worked at Central Saint Martins, London College of Communication, Cranfield University, and Brighton University. As former Programme Director for Culture and Enterprise, I was course development lead for both MA Arts and Creative Enterprise course run in collaboration with Hong Kong University, and for the MBA course run in collaboration with Birkbeck.

My research interests include the nature and uses of creativity and innovation in organisations, design as an agent of social and organisational change, and design practice in user-centred and co-production contexts.
