Biography

I am a design researcher, consultant and educator working between Bristol and London.

As a design researcher, I am interested in addressing the nature-culture divide and helping people close the sustainability value-action gap. I approach this through writing, spatial interventions and consultancy work.

I have worked on funded research projects for the University of Arts London and the Royal College of Art. These projects explored socio-environmental transitions, such as the shift from extractive to regenerative practices in higher education. I approach my work collaboratively, focusing on participatory methods and relational approaches.

My design strategies and transition pathways prioritise ecosystems and biocultural diversity, recognising the interconnectedness of nature, culture and language. I advocate for those who have been historically silenced, including non-human perspectives.

As a freelance consultant for The Place Bureau, I provide critical insights to inform placemaking moves for city planners and stakeholders. This involves research, producing insights and delivering futures-oriented participatory workshops.

As an educator, I use a facilitative leadership approach and support students in their learning goals. I encourage interdisciplinary collaboration and welcome a range of learning methods, including non-human pedagogies.

Currently, my interest lies in exploring the tacit agreements between designers and nature, which I am exploring in my PhD research. Inspired by Michel Serres’ conception of the Natural Contract, I am interested in the reciprocity, agreements and trade-offs that occur when designers work with non-humans.
