Infographic animation to promote CVS – Council for Voluntary Service

London Plus is the capital's volunteering and civil society charity. They champion London’s civil society through insight, influence and powerful connections. A particular focus is supporting London’s network of Council for Voluntary Service (CVS) organisations. 29 London boroughs have a CVS acting as an umbrella organisation for the voluntary, community and social sectors in each borough.

The London Plus CVS Network saw a need for clearer messaging about CVS so that more people could access the support on offer. They decided that an animated film would be an interesting way to communicate what an individual CVS does and the collective impact of the CVS Network working together across London. The film needed to be short, informative and suitable for social media marketing and web content.

London Plus and the network worked with LCC’s Business and Innovation team to develop a project timetable, refine a brief for the film and recruit students to apply for the opportunity. Five students from BA (Hons) Illustration and Visual Media, BA (Hons) User Experience Design, BA (Hons) Graphic and Media Design and MA Animation were selected to attend a briefing workshop facilitated by an LCC tutor, and then to present their ideas for the animation.

Olly Corps from BA (Hons) Graphic and Media Design was selected to complete the project. He worked with London Plus to finalise a script, create a story board and then animate each section.

London Plus Coordinator Emily Coatham said “Overall we felt that the whole process was brilliant. It was very useful being able to see all of the students’ plans for the video so that we could work with an idea which all of us liked. Olly has been a pleasure to work with and we are all really pleased with the video.”

Networks and Partnerships Manager Leah Whittingham said “The CVS Network members now have a film that they can use individually and collectively to promote their work and use it as a tool to raise awareness of the support and advocacy initiatives taking place around the Capital.”
