Multiplex

A mural with en elephant

Multiplex approached LCC to work with our diverse mix of talent on a mural project for its staff canteen. The objective was to uplift the space and bring joy to Multiplex's employees each day – capturing the scale and imagination of the new development in Elephant & Castle (including the new LCC campus), and the vibrant surroundings of the local community, through the power of art and design.

The Creative Lead was experienced Eco-Muralist Nicole Blanchard, who led a student team to design and deliver the mural, responding to Multiplex's brief.

Students delivered two design proposals, incorporating the client's feedback throughout. The final design was chosen by the client and will be installed in Multiplex's stairwell.

The project was designed to be as sustainable as possible, using environmentally-friendly paints and when the LCC campus is complete, the mural will be transferred to the new building to be enjoyed by students and the community for years to come.

Working with UAL on the Student Mural Project has been an absolute pleasure for Multiplex. From the outset, their team demonstrated a deep commitment to creativity, student engagement, and excellence. UAL students brought a refreshing perspective to our project, infusing it with innovative ideas and artistic wisdom. Their dedication to the project's success was evident and their professionalism was truly commendable. Multiplex is grateful for this enriching collaboration and looks forward to future ventures with UAL.

— Phoebe Slack, Project Manager Multiplex
It was a cathartic and calming experience to go into the space to paint after our classes. I remember spending hours just painting flat shapes of colours on canvas, and it was a wonderful feeling that I don't even sense time passing when we were so immersed in this activity. It was a great learning experience as well, to engage actively with the history of Elephant and Castle, where LCC is based at and where I lived during the past two years of studying at LCC.

— Haiyi He, BA (Hons) Design Management Student
The mural project really evoked a great sense of teamwork and bought together people of different different disciplines into one space. There was a alot of learning in terms of understanding elephant and castle and also how a team of different minds can work together with the appropriate guidance.
