Interview

You graduated from MA Photojournalism and Documentary Photography in 2026.  What was the most important learning you took from the course?

Start with your research, and the images will follow in a very natural, unforced way. If you feel stuck at any point, then go back to your research for the answers.

What was a highlight from your time at LCC?

I loved hanging out in the darkrooms. I learned how to use a large format camera and develop 5x4 film, with the help of the very knowledgeable technicians. Meeting Zanele Muholi at The Tate was also a highlight.

How did your major project help you when you graduated?

I have had an image from the project shortlisted for The Woman in Art- Eve Arnold Photography Prize, which is being held next week at The British Library.

Black and white images showing a butterfly trapped inside a poly tunnel.

Can you tell us more about your current role?

I was a mature student on the course at LCC. I used to be an art teacher in secondary schools, so I'm thinking of returning to that.

How do you see the MAPJD ethos reflected in the work you do?

When deciding on a new subject/area of study, I seek out injustices that I feel strongly about, which is definitely something we were encouraged to do throughout the MA. I believe that image and text can play a hugely important role in helping us to imagine different futures. For example, my final project was largely about the double standard of female ageing.

What’s the most exciting or fulfilling aspect of your current work?

I always enjoy teaching Photography to people of any age.

A black and white photograph of a person swimming in water at night. Everything is very white.

What are you currently working on?

I'm currently working on a project about an Iron Age archaeological site.
