Media and Communication Semester
Course introduction
This course will prepare you to successfully work with the media and creative communications industries.
You’ll develop the creative and critical skills needed to evaluate and make sense of media, and to create dynamic and effective communications across a range of sectors.
This course is ideal for you if you are thinking of heading into a career in media, communications or the cultural industries. It will also be useful for you if you are thinking about further studies in this area.
During this 13-week course you will:
- Experience a taster of five Practices that make up the expanded field of Media, Culture and Communications at London College of Communication.
- Learn from tutors who are practicing artists, designers and communicators. benefit from access to specialist facilities at UAL’s six Colleges.
- Meet like-minded individuals from around the world.
- Get involved in UAL life through social events and activities.
- All courses are assessed and you'll receive a record of study at the end of the programme if you wish to request credit from your home institution.

Entry requirements
English language requirements
- Be from a majority English speaking country or;
- Have studied for at least 1 year at a university in a majority English speaking country or;
- An IELTS score (or equivalent) of 6.0, or above, with 5.5 in each of the components.
Academic requirements
Students applying for this course are expected to have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or equivalent.
Written work
An example of one of your written pieces of work is required for this course. You will be sent an email after submitting your application, asking you to submit this.
Course details
You will enrol on 3 mandatory units, 3 core course units and then may select elective units, to a total maximum of 16 US credits / 64 UK credits / 32 ECTS. Delivered primarily at London College of Communication. Teaching locations are subject to change. Individual student timetables will be shared during the course induction week.

Lynsey Fox
Leading our core module, Introduction to Media Communication, and elective Print and Online Journalism., Lynsey is a Senior Lecturer in Public Relations and Media and Communication at London College of Communication (LCC).
Ruth Butah
When Ruth Butah isn’t working as an Associate Lecturer at LCC she’s busy managing marketing communications for Blakes Hotel, a premier, luxury boutique hotel in London. Ruth brings with her loads of PR experience working with some of the biggest names in fashion such as Puma, Barbour, Juicy Couture. At Dolce and Gabbana she had the enviable role of celebrity endorsements and PR Manager.
Materials
You’ll need some materials for your first session. This includes Laptop with Adobe Suite Software installed, smartphone, pencils, sketchbook, other drawing materials of choice.
Other mixed media materials can be purchased as needed, at a discounted price from the college shop or from external suppliers (please contact us if you need any further information).
Study Abroad Award
2 Study Abroad awards are available per term to students on our UAL Study Abroad Semester.
We are looking for students who will create social media content and blogs of their time with us as a Study Abroad Student. In exchange, you will receive one award of £2,000 to your bank account after going through enrolment.
Deadline: 15 May for the Autumn term and 31 October for the Spring term.
