Current BA (Hons) Production for Live Events and Television (Top Up) student, Amanda Green, reports.

On Wednesday 4 June, we hosted our Summer Show aboard the Tattershall Castle, a boat moored on the Thames in Central London.

The centrepiece of the event was the course showreel which demonstrated the students’ versatility and wide range of skills. In addition to this we were able to promote ourselves and our various specialities including camera operation, set and costume design, creative direction, event planning, production design, cinematography and video editing.

Business cards, digital portfolios and websites were used as promotional tools which allowed the students to represent themselves in a professional way.

Olu Okulaja, one of the students whose work was on display, explained “It was a great opportunity to network and get useful recommendations from industry professionals.” Fellow student Daniella Bailey added, “It was great to meet some really interesting industry professionals and to be given the chance to show all the work we’ve worked so hard on.”

The intimate event provided a unique opportunity for us to speak directly with industry professionals, and as a result several students have subsequently been offered jobs. In addition to this we were able to give advice and network with those in other years of the course. As fellow students it was intriguing to share experiences of previous projects and reflect upon our progression throughout our time at LCC.
