Interview

What attracted you to studying MA Film?
I was interested in studying MA Film as I wanted to expand my knowledge of producing films. It was recommended to me by a close friend of mine from my bachelor degree.

What experience did you have prior to joining the course?

Before joining MA Film, I worked at Odeon Cinemas in Leicester Square, where I got firsthand experience in the world of major film premieres, including Rocketman, Toy Story 4 and the Lion King.

Before that, I completed a bachelor in Film & Television Production at Bond University, Australia. During the course, I operated on all roles of the film set until I figured my passion for working as a producer.

Can you tell us a little bit about the graduation project you worked on?

For our graduation project, Muhammed Seyyid Yildiz proposed his script for Ajotin, which he was to direct. I was immediately hooked on his idea, and I joined in as Producer. The short film follows the story of an illegal Kurdish Refugee borrowing the car of his dreams for a joyride around London.

Until freedom starts to fade out when a series of misfortunes come his way, leading him to make a fateful decision. The film was well-praised amongst our family and friends, we're now awaiting the responses from film festivals worldwide.

Did the course provide opportunities to engage with industry?

We had a chance to produce a short for UK renowned construction company Sir Robert McAlpine. It was a great experience as we expanded our portfolio, learned how to work with clients and earned money to go towards our graduation projects.

If you could give one piece of advice to someone thinking of studying the course, what would it be?

My one piece of advice is to have a lot of self-motivation as you’ll be spending long hours working on either dissertation or graduation projects, and it’s only up to you to do what’s expected from the course.

There will be many obstacles coming your way, but you will need to push through them to get over the hump. The end result is definitely worth it.

What was the most important thing you learnt from studying MA Film?

The most important thing I've learned from studying MA Film is how to work with clients. I now understand the timeline when operating with a client and what is expected of you.

As with most of the previous films I worked on, we had complete creative control, but it's their choice when it comes to working with clients.

What was your personal highlight of studying MA Film at London College of Communication?

My highlight was the last day of the set of my graduation project Ajotin. After spending three long months of intensive pre-production and a tough week of production, it all came to an end, and the challenging part was done.

Now that you have graduated from the course, what are your future career ambitions?

My future career ambitions are working in the film industry as a Film Producer and working on features. Right now, I’m looking to gain experience in distribution to learn how films are distributed to a larger audience successfully.
