Biography

Dr. Alina Potemska is an illustrator, game artist and game designer. She is a Lecturer on BA (Hons) Games Art at London College of Communication.

Alina's research focus is on effective methods of training cognitive function through games. Her research interests include gamification, illustration, tabletop games, video games, ethics, and education.

Alina has a degree in Illustration, Cultural and Social Pedagogy as well as a PhD in Game Design.

Her PhD research on cognition in games is based on a case study "Exodus: a board game" she designed. Research shows history of game developing and methods how narrative art can be used in the gaming industry.

Alina has worked for public sector organisations such as NGOs, museums, and educational projects in the UK and internationally providing efficient solutions how to communicate narratives via visual arts and games. Her focus is on how to use games and gamification to support wellbeing, learning, and social change.

As an educator, Alina has been working for over a decade as both a lecturer and workshop leader for various artistic projects and art residencies. She has been part of multiple educational game projects such as “PlatzCart”, “MemoPara” in collaboration with GFPS e.V.

Alina actively participates in the creative and gaming world. She regularly exhibits her artworks in both solo and in group exhibitions. As an illustrator she has been working as children book illustrator and poster designer for movies and film festivals. She is a regular guest at gaming events, fairs, conferences, and runs gaming nights.

Alina has presented and written about the relationship between games, illustration, and the evolution of gaming and how it integrated in our daily life.
