Biography

Dr Lucia Vodanovic is a writer, researcher and is Course Leader for the MA Arts and Lifestyle Journalism course at London College of Communication.

Lucia studied journalism in Chile, where she grew up, before working in arts, culture and lifestyle publications. She also had a weekly column in a national newspaper about the life of a single woman in Santiago under a fictional name.

After moving to the UK, Lucia completed her MA and PhD in Cultural Studies at Goldsmiths and has taught at a number of universities around the UK.

Lucia’s interdisciplinary background is reflected in the MA Arts and Lifestyle Journalism course, which offers a multimedia approach to journalism as well as exploring journalism's role in the creative industries and how it shapes our understanding of issues such as place, culture and taste.

Lucia’s research interests focus on notions of obsolescence and ephemerality with regards to art and media practices, social aesthetics, and amateurism and its links with self-reliance and self-organisation.

Her edited collection, Disturbios Culturales (Ediciones UDP), appeared in 2012 and her work has also been featured in publications such as Journal of Visual Art Practice, Travesia: Journal of Latin American Cultural Studies and Journal of Romance Studies.

Lucia is also one of the contributors of the volume Materiality and Popular Culture: The Popular Life of Things (Routledge 2016), which approaches contemporary meanings of materiality and discusses ways in which we understand, experience and engage with objects through popular culture in our private, social and professional lives.

She teaches the Critical Perspectives units on MA Arts and Lifestyle Journalism and also lecturers on the BA (Hons) Journalism course at London College of Communication.
