In preparation for a spotlight on Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) on 30 November, we spoke to Andy Sankey, Chief Examiner for Extended Project Qualification at UAL Awarding Body, about why you should come to the session and the benefits of studying this qualification. We also asked students from The Brentwood School what their experience is of studying it.

This spotlight session has been designed for centres that do not currently deliver UAL Level 3 Extended Project Qualification or those who are looking to expand their provision.

If you have any questions about the event, please email events.awarding@arts.ac.uk.

Insight into a spotlight on Extended Project Qualification (EPQ)

The Extended Project Qualification is a great qualification that puts students at the centre. It's based around a project of their choice whilst developing and applying the fundamental academic skills to progress and take ownership of their own learning.

This qualification can be studied alongside vocational and A level qualifications, and is held in high regard by universities. Come along to the spotlight session, where I will introduce the qualification with Joe Scotland. Plus, two of her students will give an overview of delivering and studying the UAL EPQ, with opportunity for Q&A. I hope to see and speak with existing UAL Awarding Body centres and any centres, schools and colleges interested in working with us.

What do you enjoy about studying Level 3 Extended Project Qualification?

I enjoy having the freedom to take my project down any path I would like and being able to do something different from the mainstream A level curriculum, and learning new skills.

- Scarlett Catton, Level 3 Extended Project Qualification student at The Brentwood School

I believe that the UAL Extended Project Qualification has pushed me out of my comfort zone and made me realise how much I love cinematography. I am learning new skills like editing and sound mixing. This is extremely useful as I’ve always loved drama but also know the risks of trying to join this industry. The EPQ has allowed me to learn skills that could lead to me entering the business from a different angle and I am very grateful for this.
