Education and Skills Funding Agency has now confirmed funding for qualifications for 2021/22. We know many of you have been waiting for this information and we are pleased to finally be able to confirm funding arrangements for 16-to-19, 19+ including legal entitlement and Advanced Learner Loans.

You can check our qualifications on the Find a learning aim website, previously known as LARS, as this is where the most up to date funding information is made available by the ESFA.

Funding changes for low uptake qualifications 2022/23

Following a sector-wide Department for Education (DfE) review some smaller qualifications with very few or no registrations will have funding removed from August 2022 in England. These are qualifications with consistently fewer than 100 students nationally per year.

Thanks to an appeal process we’re pleased to have been able to retain funding for some of the qualifications identified by the DfE. A few of our small awards and certificates, however, are affected. Please note that if funding is being removed for an Award that is nested within a larger Diploma or Extended Diploma, the Diplomas and Extended Diplomas still attract funding. Students will be unable, however, to fall back to the smaller sized qualification and receive funding for it in those cases.

This removal will affect 16-18 year old students on study programmes and 19+ students under the Adult Education Budget, including those entitled to legal entitlement and those requiring Advanced Learner Loans.

We expect this change to affect very few centres and students, but the following qualifications remain in scope to have funding removed from 1st August 2022:

  • UAL Level 1 Award in Music, Performing & Production Arts
  • UAL Level 2 Certificate in Drawing
  • UAL Level 2 Award in Photography
  • UAL Level 2 Award in Printmaking
  • UAL Level 2 Certificate in Photography
  • UAL Level 2 Award in Music, Performance & Production
  • UAL Level 2 Award in Fashion Business & Retail
  • UAL Level 3 Certificate in Drawing
  • UAL Level 3 Award in Photography
  • UAL Level 3 Certificate in Photography

Centres are still able to register students on to all of the above qualifications and attract funding for the 2021/22 academic year.
