Our second workshop in the #OriginsCreatives21 workshop series is with musician, label director and educator Luke Branch.

In 2014 Luke Branch and his business partner Michael Webster formed Southend's Cool Thing Records as a way to facilitate the debut releases by their now critically acclaimed band Asylums. Since 2014 they have organically developed a roster of over 10 unique acts and built a reputation within the music business as "one of the UK's most exciting labels" in the words of Radio X's John Kennedy.

Over the last 12 months the impact of the global pandemic has presented many challenges for Cool Thing Records and Luke and Michael have adapted their practice to develop various digital strategies and routes to market for themselves, their clients and their roster. In March 2021 the pair consolidated their digital approach and put the debut album by Scotland's MASON HILL in at 19 in the National Charts and 1 in the Rock Charts - with no touring, major label and with most record shops closed.

In this workshop Luke will be passing on a variety of digital strategies to support new artists of all disciplines find online audiences and build sustainable projects which optimise algorithmic marketing approaches.

Booking is now open via Eventbrite. Spaces are limited, so we recommend booking in advance to guarantee a place.
