2021-22 Funding Update
UAL Awarding Body would like to provide some information and guidance on the current funding position for its qualifications. The Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) have confirmed that funding will be issued on an annual basis for qualifications across the 14-16 and 16-19 landscape. This position is consistent across all funding offers and all Awarding Organisations.
We expect our qualifications will continue to be funded in the 2021-22 academic year as they have been this academic year, as we have not made any changes to our qualifications that would warrant a change in their funding status. We anticipate the new list of funded qualifications for the year ahead to be issued by the ESFA in February or March 2021, however, this may be delayed due to current Covid-19 priorities.
We will update centres once the new list of funded qualifications has been released.
Withdrawal of funding approval from qualifications with low and no publicly funded enrolments
As you may be aware, the ESFA plan on removing funding for qualifications with low and no publicly funded enrolments. This process began last year with the removal of "no" enrolment qualifications.
The ESFA look at public-funded enrolments over a three-year period (2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19) to determine whether qualifications fall into the low or no enrolments category. Low enrolment is defined by 99 or less publicly funded learners over this period. The consultation about Post-16 qualifications at Level 3 and below in the England is ongoing and UAL Awarding Body are working closely with the DfE and Regulators in our response to this consultation.
It is the ESFA's intention to remove funding approval for qualifications with low publicly funded enrolments from 1 August 2022. We are currently reviewing the qualifications that fall under the scope for review to identify which we will request to retain approval for funding following the criteria provided by the ESFA. However, we can reassure you that the majority of our Level 2 Diplomas, and none of our Level 3 Diplomas and Extended Diplomas, are in scope for funding removal as part of this process.
The deadline for all Awarding Organisations to submit appeals against the removal of funding is fast approaching: 5th March 2021.
We will contact our centres if we require support for our challenge to appeal and with regard to any ESFA outcomes. However, if you have any questions, please get in touch with the Qualification Development Team.
