Research the work of a historic creative or artistic tradition from another part of the world by people whose creative contributions are underrepresented in mainstream historical narratives. What is the most powerful message you get from their work?

This academic year we have created a series of new provocations with Karina H Maynard to illuminate and draw attention to alternative jump-off points for creative practice. They are there to engage students in creative projects that explore themes beyond the core curriculum of their qualifications.

The provocations will increase awareness and engagement with topics relating to Global History, Decolonisation and Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.

The second provocation invites students to explore Global History.

Research the work of a historic creative or artistic tradition from another part of the world by people whose creative contributions are underrepresented in mainstream historical narratives.

What is the most powerful message you get from their work?

Create an original piece of creative work that responds to this message.

This provocation invites students to:

  • Enrich their knowledge of creative history,
  • Improve their awareness of how representation shapes worldview, and
  • Develop their understanding of how cultural experiences shape creative practice.

This provocation encourages students to affirm positive self-identity, respect for others and belonging.
