London College of Communication students worked with Ladybird books year as part of an industry project to reimagine 100 years of design and illustration.
A century after the first Ladybird book was published, students from LCC explored, celebrated and reinterpreted Vintage Ladybird’s rich heritage as part of a collaborative project.
Ladybird gave the students open access to their incredible artwork archive for the first time, enabling them to see the original illustrations first hand, in addition to having full access to the online archive. Inspired by the original illustration and design, students created contemporary, new or future-gazing designs that reimagines Ladybird in today’s world. View student designs on LCC Flickr.
Reimagining Vintage Ladybird was part of Ladybird’s centenary celebrations throughout 2015.
LCC’s former Dean of the School of Design Professor Lawrence Zeegen wrote a book, Ladybird by Design, which portrays a unique slice of Britain’s social and design history, as seen through the eyes of Ladybird. Accompanying the book is the Ladybird by Design exhibition at House of Illustration in Kings Cross, London, which ran until 21 September 2015.
