BA (Hons) Games Design focuses on the challenging nature of games, equipping students with the skills and knowledge to build their own original, conceptual and highly playable games.

In this year’s line-up of work – shown in LCC Degree Shows 2018: Show 2, 21–23 June 2018 – students will be encouraging you to play their finished games and to learn more about the processes behind the games from the designers themselves.

Here we shine a spotlight on some of projects on show…

Adeel Deol

‘Slime-Time’

‘Slime-Time’ showcases Adeel’s work as a 3D environmental artist as well as encapsulating their learning throughout the years on the course. The game is  a first person zombie shooter where players are the size of a toy/action figure and have to save a bedroom from other plagued zombie toys.

‘Catch the Thief’

‘Catch the Thief’ is a mental game which provides a game experience of being a detective to help the victim and the police by careful observation and cautious inference. The initial inspiration for this project came from online crime prevention website ‘Catch a Thief’. Players do not know who the thief is and must make inferences based on the case and finally target the suspect. After that players can observe 12 different surveillance monitors to find out the escape route of the thieves, finally helping the police to catch the thieves.

‘Planet Hop’

‘The idea of plate spinning gave me inspiration for this project. I  wanted to work on a gravity mechanic for multiple planets that the player could interact with. Players must run around planets to grow different stages of life on them to earn points whilst asteroids that make impact with the planet destroy the stage of life and make the planet a ‘dead planet’, which stops the player accumulating points.’
