Viec Nguyen, a current LCC Diploma in Professional Studies/BA (Hons) Graphic and Media Design student, has just started an internship with Adidas in Germany working with Jeff Metal, an alumnus of MA Photography at LCC.

Jeff explains, “I have been in my current role for just over three months and it is great to now have the addition of Viec as my intern. Contrary to the misconception that interns are just there to do the dirty work, I believe it is a great opportunity to learn about all aspects of a company. At Adidas I’m sure Viec will discover a lot about how graphics are not just about making pretty pictures! The whole process is a journey starting with creative direction and marketing briefs through to the actual design phase and then sample reviews, plus there is the opportunity to work with some very interesting individuals!”

Jeff studied a media foundation (Access to HE Diploma: Media Communication) at LCC, back when it was London College of Printing, in 1997. Since then he has worked on a broad range of creative projects in film, video, graphic design, apparel design and photography. In 2011 Jeff returned to LCC to do an MA in Photography. “What I took away the most from my time there was the belief and confidence in my own work and being able to communicate the ideas behind the work. These skills have certainly become useful in all aspects of my work and now especially here at Adidas where I have to present ideas and communicate them effectively.”

Viec is a third year BA (Hons) Graphic Media Design student who has taken a year out to do a Diploma in Professional Studies. “My feelings are very similar to Jeff’s, I couldn’t imagine myself saying ‘I’m going to Germany to work with Adidas’ yet here I am! Opportunities like these seem really hard to come by but studying at LCC and taking the DPS year out have made that jump into the design industry so much smoother and more thrilling than I ever expected.”
