Interview

Why did you choose to study this course and why London College of Communication (LCC)?

BA (Hons) Illustration and Visual Media is the course that perfectly covers what I am as an artist. Someone that enjoys illustrating stories as well as telling my own through a variety of medium. I looked at a few courses that did the similar things but after some more research, I learned that LCC gave me the most freedom in terms of creativity. I wouldn't be restricted to one medium or way of working which was perfect for me.

What’s the most interesting project you’ve worked on so far?

Easily the one I’m working right now. It's a Self-Initiated Project that I’m using as a way to explore my personal life. It's also allowing me to explore a new medium that's let me evolve as an artist.

What important piece of advice would you give to students thinking of studying this course?

Explore your creative practice. You might be good at one thing and think that's what you want to do forever but you should try everything. It always a better idea to have a wide variety of skills that you can call on if needed than having to learn it all from scratch.

What has been the highlight of your LCC experience so far?

Honestly, growing as an artist with my peers. Having people that are growing and learning together with me was really nice because in truth, we have no idea what we're doing but we're slowly becoming who we're meant to be.

What is the most important thing you've learnt on the course so far?

Adaptability. I thought everything would be straight forward but in my time here random things have gotten in the way of what I imagined my final product to be. I learned to manoeuvre around those things and get to the end (even if it’s not the one I imagined).

How do you find being a student in London? What would your dream day in London look like?

Remarkably convenient. Everything is easy to reach here.

My dream day? Wake up early and come to uni. Work on whatever project I’m doing then (inevitably) discover a problem. Think about that problem over lunch and by the time I’m done eating, go to get whatever I need from somewhere within uni, or the countless places I can get to with a bus pass.

If you had to describe your LCC experience in three words, what would they be?

"Necessary Personal Growth”
