Beth is a current student on MA 3D Computer Animation at London College of Communication.
Why did you decide to study MA 3D Computer Animation?
I wanted to deepen my knowledge, grow as an animator and implement this in everyday life; to further my understanding and utilise it for a career within the film industry.
Which project have you most enjoyed working on?
I’ve really enjoyed the experimental project. It’s self-initiated, meaning you can base your work on a topic you’re interested in. For this reason, I’ve been able to be more playful with the processes and outcomes.
What has been the highlight of the course so far?
The one-to-one advice I’ve received from my tutor has been valuable, it’s helped to round my views of the industry. The knowledge he’s shared with me has been very inspirational.
What is the most valuable lesson you’ve learnt on the course?
Be patient and save your work regularly!
How do you find the facilities available to you at London College of Communication?
The facilities at the College are very accessible and the technicians are polite and friendly.
Has the course included any involvement with industry?
We collaborated with The Third Floor, a world leading visualization studio, on a project which was completely out of my comfort zone. However, with guidance and mentoring from their Head of Creative, I came away having learnt new skills, a new perspective and more about the industry.
Have you completed any work placements whilst studying on the course?
I am currently a runner at Framestore. By working at such an established creative studio, I have been able to build connections and relationships within the departments I am interested in progressing into. I have a mentor and we regularly go through the in-house tracking training programme.
Name three things you couldn’t be creative without?
Podcasts, a computer and a good rig.
What are your plans for the future?
My future plans consist of training at Framestore to get promoted to a full-time Tracking Artist. It’s always been a dream to work with Disney or Pixar on their feature films.
Why would you recommend MA 3D Computer Animation to prospective students?
The course is flexible and is great because you can start the course as a beginner or as an experienced animator. Working in a close-knit environment and having one to one tuition has been hugely beneficial. This course has greatened my strengths, rounded my weaknesses and set me up for my exciting career ahead.
