MA Journalism

MA Journalism is for students who want to delve deep into stories that matter to them and develop a distinctive journalistic voice.

The course offers pathways in Arts and Lifestyle Journalism, Social Justice Journalism and Audio-Video Journalism, each of which combines intellectual rigour and a strong focus on employability with a unique character stemming from their place in a creative arts university.

MA Journalism and its pathways are underpinned by a commitment to practice as a basis for developing skills. It reflects the contemporary environment of multi-platform journalism, and enables you to produce work in a range of genres and styles. At the heart of this is Artefact, our multimedia publication, which is produced in a professional newsroom environment and includes a high-quality, full-colour magazine, a website, social media channels, podcasts and videos.

Employability is embedded through guest speakers and tutors, mentoring schemes, and our annual 'Meet the Experts' event, while we also help students to develop freelance and entrepreneurial skills. Student work is regularly published in media outlets including the Guardian, Vice, Metro, Vogue, Huff Post, Dazed and Refinery 29.

Our students come from a wide variety of backgrounds across both the UK and the world. The course is suitable for people new to journalism as well as those seeking to develop their practice.
