The Periodic Table

Periodic Table Student Work exhibited in Science Museum Lates

Every year, BA (Hons) Interaction Design Arts students are offered the opportunity to submit work for the Science Museum Lates.

The Science Museum Lates are an opportunity for an adult audience of over 3000 to engage with and be inspired by displays and demonstrations around a scientific subject on the last Wednesday of every month.

Every year the goal is for the students to create a piece of interactive work for a curated exhibition that needs very little explanation for the user. All work must be able to be assembled and working within 40 minutes from the start of set up. Wit and ideas should take precedence over technology.

In April 2019, BA (Hons) Interaction Design Arts students created work around the theme of the ‘150th Anniversary of the Periodic Table’ with a specific emphasis on chemistry, while allowing for each element to be thought about in its own right and in relation to how it has impacted the world we live in.

Students developed work around the questions and themes of finite resources, discovery, sustainability, technology, medicine, the future, and serendipity.
