The buzz of creativity filled the air as UAL's Creative Hack brought students together in person at High Holborn over several exhilarating days. This year, we delved into 3 compelling themes: environmental sustainability, responsible technology, and social justice and equality.

Once again, Careers and Employability spearheaded this dynamic hackathon, working closely with teams and staff from across UAL colleges to champion student and graduate enterprise. The event provided a platform for participants to converge, learn, innovate, and present their ground-breaking ideas, all aimed at addressing the pressing challenges facing London and envisioning a brighter future for our city.

The response this year was overwhelming, with a record number of students and recent graduates eager to participate. With a total of 15 diverse teams representing various colleges, students collaborated tirelessly over 3 intense days, culminating in captivating pitches to a panel of esteemed judges from industry and entrepreneurship. Among this year's notable judges were Dorcas Payne, Patrick Morris, Evi Baniotopoulou, and Liz Hamburger.

3 standout teams claimed victory, sharing from a generous prize pool of £3,000. Our overall winner, S3, clinched the grand prize of £1,500 with their ingenious concept—a revolutionary car filter designed to slash carbon emissions.

Throughout the event, participants received unwavering support, benefiting from insightful talks, dedicated coaches and mentors, and a wealth of resources tailored to their hacking endeavors. The collaborative energy and innovative spirit witnessed at Creative Hack 2024 underscored the profound impact of cross-college collaboration in driving positive change within our communities.

"It was an incredible experience! Creative Hack provided us with a fantastic opportunity to connect with new faces and leverage our skills collaboratively to generate inspiring concepts. With only a few days to research and develop our business model alongside newfound peers, the challenge was invigorating and the outcome, truly exciting. Definitely recommend everyone at UAL to take part!” – Creative Hack participant.
