It’s 4 years since UAL’s award-winning enterprise learning space – not just a shop – opened its doors.

Based in High Holborn, the space is the brainchild of UAL’s Careers and Employability team, designed to support students and graduates with their product-based enterprises. All UAL students and graduates can apply to sell their work in the shop, and the income it generates is ploughed back into the department’s year-round enterprise learning programme.

Since launching in 2017, not just a shop has supported 211 students and alumni through product sales, license fees and fine art showcasing - resulting in an incredible £335,000 being paid out to our students and alumni. Many of them have also received invaluable feedback on their products, packaging, pricing and more - to help prepare them for working with larger retails.

In addition to sales, not just a shop has provided numerous students and graduates with creative, retail and administrative employment, including visual merchandising and paid marketing internships. The team has also: run Christmas card commissions with Tate, supported students shows via print sales, and commissioned exclusive UAL products and Christmas decorations. Even when the shop was forced to close during the pandemic, not just a shop supported and showcased UAL’s makers via virtual markets and Instagram ‘Meet the Maker’ and DIY videos.

Careers and Employability are preparing to reopen the High Holborn store on 6 October 2021. In the meantime, you can shop online at notjustashop.arts.ac.uk
