Have you ever felt overwhelmed balancing both studying and working a job? Fear not, we're here to support you! Let's dive into our practical time management tips to unlock your full potential.

Prioritise like a pro

Have you ever heard of the Pareto principle? It's the idea that 80% of your results come from just 20% of your activities. Knowing this, you can identify the tasks that have the most impact. Try using the Eisenhower Matrix to figure out your top priorities. Once you know what's most important, focus your time and energy there. Make a list of key actions that need immediate attention. Simplify and streamline your focus for maximum effectiveness.

Balance your schedule

Organise your days, weeks and months with dedicated slots for work, study and off time. Use a planner, calendar or a time management app to block out specific times. It's worth including commitments such as meetups and networking events so when work is busy or study is challenging, you know when you will have a break later. Stick to your schedule as much as possible to stay on track.

Cut out distractions during study

Find out what works for you. Minimise distractions by finding a quiet study space and silencing your phone. Studying many hours may lead to burnout. It’s good to break sessions into smaller, manageable tasks and use active learning techniques such as summarising information or teaching concepts to others. If you are creating a fashion collection or a design portfolio, see if there is availability to book a workshop with your classmates. Great inspiration can come from collaboration.

It's more than just knowledge—it's about the people you know! Expand your network by signing up for UAL's career fairs and student groups. Attend workshops, seminars, and conferences that align with your interests. Opportunities abound through Careers and Employability! Get ready with a short introduction about yourself and your career goals, and confidently initiate conversations.

If you're passionate about a specific career, connecting with professionals in that industry can provide valuable experience and insights. Alumni can introduce you to their contacts, and fellow students can provide motivation. The connections you make during your university years can lead to lifelong friendships and boost your future career. Embrace the power of networking and watch your possibilities soar!

Self care

Make time for regular exercise, sufficient sleep and healthy meals. Relaxation techniques like meditation or deep breathing can help reduce stress. Taking care of yourself boosts your overall well-being and enhances your focus and productivity.
