You were a judge for the Creative Hack and ran a workshop on pricing, manufacturing and supply chains as well as giving one-to-one enterprise sessions. What did you think was valuable about these activities for students and graduates?

As a judge for the Creative Hack and facilitator of workshops on pricing, manufacturing, and supply chains, as well as providing one-to-one enterprise sessions, I found immense value in these activities for students and graduates. These sessions offered practical insights into the business side of creativity, equipping participants with essential skills and knowledge to navigate the complexities of the industry.

Do you feel that the work you did with students and graduates had an impact on the development of their creative practice, business or enterprise idea?

The students and graduates I engaged with have shared how beneficial the sessions were in shaping their creative practice, business acumen, and enterprise ideas as well as ensuring they have all their bases covered. Many struggle with the financial, operational, and strategic aspects of running a business, areas that may not align with their natural strengths. It's crucial to empower creatives to address these challenges and pursue their ideas with confidence in order to build a business that stands the test of time and is also profitable. With a majority of the entrepreneurs being predominantly creative; the business operations elements may not always be something they enjoy or excel at - but that should never be a reason why a creative does not pursue an idea or at least explore its potential.

Have you personally benefited from this experience, and if so, in what ways?

Absolutely. Witnessing the can-do attitude of the creatives I've interacted with has been personally enriching. It reaffirms that taking the first step and seeking support along the way is often the key to realizing creative potential.

What was your overall experience like as an entrepreneur in residence at UAL?

My experience as an entrepreneur in residence at UAL has been incredibly rewarding. It's inspiring to witness the diverse entrepreneurial endeavours of students and alumni, and to play a role in supporting their creative and commercial journeys. Being a catalyst for these innovative ideas has been a privilege.
