The staff club and table nests, created for the College by Featherstone Young architects, have been shortlisted for the ‘Best Interior’ and ‘Best Design Innovation’ awards.
The three colour-coded sets of table nests were designed to encourage students to make more use of the main ‘street’ space in the Central Saint Martins building. The nests are highly adaptable, providing everything from seating to power sockets.
Speaking to Dezeen earlier in the year, designer Sarah Featherstone said: “Almost as soon as they were rolled out into the street students were crawling all over them working out what they can do, eliciting impromptu performances and screenings in them.”
In the Central Saint Martins staff club, soft grey fabrics offset by neon highlights bring life to the room. The mixture of wooden benches and wingback armchairs makes the space suitable for either a lunchtime read or an impromptu meeting.
The Blueprint 2014 winners will be announced on 14 October at a live awards ceremony in east London.
