You can now follow the Central Saint Martins Museum and Study Collection on ArtStack. We’ll be adding new works from our rich art and design archive to the site each week.
Our Museum and Study Collection acts as the College archive and tells the story of its long history. For more than a century we’ve been collecting work by students and staff, and for the last 20 years we’ve also been buying work from degree shows. ArtStack is another way for people to discover, collect and share works from the collection.
Among the pieces uploaded to ArtStack is a box-set edition of 25 prints known as The Box 2009. Produced by the Fine Art Skills and Practice FdA at Byam Shaw School of Art in 2009, the prints showcase the diverse work created that year.
‘The good stuff rises to the top’
Head of the Museum Judy Willcocks said: “I have a personal profile, but I wanted to create a profile for the Museum and Study Collection because ArtStack has such good user figures. We might get 4,000 visitors to our museum website every year, but an artwork on ArtStack can attract lots of individual attention – so it’s a great way of promoting our collection and the artists represented in it.”
“I follow curators who I know have good taste, so I can see what they are looking at and ‘stacking’. What I like about ArtStack is anyone can post anything on there – from a da Vinci drawing to a contemporary photograph by a completely unknown artist – and the good stuff rises to the top, because the good stuff gets stacked. It’s a very egalitarian system.”
Other work uploaded to ArtStack by the Museum and Study Collection includes 1920s German Film posters, prints by Patrick Caulfield and Paula Rego, and paintings by Raqib Shaw.
