Dr. Jamie Brassett
I am a Reader in Philosophy, Design and Innovation, and have been MA Course Leader and Innovation Management Subject Leader since the course started in 2008. I lecture and write in the areas of philosophy, innovation management and design; and provides management and design research consultancy for a number of companies. Recently I have worked with brands such as The Co-operative Group, Dorel Juvenile, Gate Gourmet, LEGO, Lloyds Banking Group, Nike Lab, P&G and Royal Bank of Scotland. I trained in Philosophy, and was awarded a PhD (University of Warwick) in 1993. Teaching since 1990, I started working at Central Saint Martins in 1995 and have since taught every subject area there (except performance).
My research spans innovation, design, philosophy, trends/foresight and literature. Deleuze and Design, a book co-edited with Dr Betti Marenko, was published by Edinburgh University Press in 2015. Along with writing journal articles, I am working with Richard Reynolds (Course Leader, MA Applied Imagination) on a book called Superheroes and Excess. A Philosophical Inquiry for Routledge, due for publication in 2020. I am regularly asked to speak nationally and internationally on issues connecting innovation management, design, foresight, philosophy and education. For example, in 2017 I haves been invited to: Oxford Futures Forum 2017 – ‘Climate Futures’ (Saïd Business School, University of Oxford); International Advertising Association’s Global Conference (Bucharest); and the International Association of Societies of Design Research’s Annual Conference (Cincinnati).
I am currently also Visiting Professor in the Design Department of the Anhalt University of Applied Sciences (Dessau, Germany) and External Examiner at Kingston Business School, Kingston University (London, UK). I hold Fellowships from both the Higher Education Academy and the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce.
