Biography

CRITICAL INTERROGATION IN FURNITURE DESIGN.

Kinesthetic Imagination is a project that is interested in finding new research methods for the furniture industry through the use of the designer's own kinesthetic sense. The furniture industry is a culture that often operates aesthetically in its efforts to re-conceptualize or re-interpret domestic objects.

While there have been many strides made in our approach to innovative materials and manufacturing methods, our collective understanding of the physical experience that furniture should support, remains largely unchallenged. Expanding on theory from Somatic Psychology to Steve Paxton's Contact Improvisation in Modern Dance, Anne Frobeen's Kinesthetic Imagination project proposes that body can provide insight into the cultural, social, emotional and psychological influences that shape our surroundings. It also proposes that the body is an active thinker, capable of synthesizing information creatively and imaginatively.

Since graduating Anne has worked amongst others for Studio Tord Boontje before being appointed research manager at the Samsung Lifestyle Research Lab in London.
