Looking to join us? We are looking to appoint a new Dean of Academic Programmes, an exciting College Management role that oversees, manages, supports and develops four of the nine Programmes here at Central Saint Martins. These Programmes are: Culture and EnterpriseDrama and PerformanceFine ArtGraphic Communication Design.

Our Programmes cover a very broad range of disciplines, and so academic leadership of the individual subjects is mainly delivered by the four Programme Directors and their Course Leaders. The Dean will work with discipline-focussed communities of academics, promoting critical debate and effective management while enabling productive relationships with administrative, technical and other central teams.

This is a collaborative role; it needs someone who is both generous in accepting multiple voices and decisive when these voices start to clash or need prompting. The Dean needs to provide constructive challenge – intellectually, creatively and in terms of standards and approach. Finally, the Dean oversees the work and output of the Programmes in relation to TEF, REF and Knowledge Exchange activities.

Speaking about the role, Head of College Jeremy Till says:

This is a key position for CSM in that the Dean will play an important part in shaping the future of the college in the face of a very fluid external landscape. We are looking for someone who is a leader in their own field, but curious about other disciplines and the way that they might interact. Someone who is prepared to engage with external networks but also deal with the day-to-day operations of a large institution. Someone who is a natural collaborator, and who is excited by the dynamism, openness and ambition of our students and staff.
